When I was a freshman at Tupelo High, I wrote a sacred poem expressing my love for Autumn. With each new chapter of life, my love of Autumn remains constant. If I were to write a new poem it would probably say something about mustard colored cardigans, chai tea lattes, breakfast at bottle tree, and the pretty colored leaves that now fill the sidewalk. There is something about Fall that lifts my spirit and I feel as if God has painted the trees just for me. I have never experienced a more lovely Autumn than this one in Oxford. I wanted to share my poem and I also asked my reader's to share some of their photos! Below you will find photos from @lyndseyhuckaby @annafeather @kaylacarp and yours truly @aliballar.
A Day in Autumn
by the 9th grade Ali Ballard
as the air grows cold
the smell of soup brewing inside grows strong
the sound of talk and story telling never becomes old
the day seems all the more long
leaves of all colors fall to the ground like graceful snow
the oaks are almost bare due to the cold winds that blow
the aromas of harvest are carried throughout the town by the crisp autumn air
stir in the spirited sounds of friends raising a cup of apple cider to fall
we smile and laugh among ourselves without a single care because THE LOVE OF AUTUMN WE ALL SHARE
we turn a deaf ear to winter's call
we choose to savor this day forever in our minds
memories of autumn will play.
This is a portrait of love. My roommate, Rachel, and I are often too cooped up indoors. Rachel spends most of her time reading and I spend most of my time watching Vampire Diaries. Sometimes, a little fresh air does the heart good. This season of transition has been hard but having a sweet friend to share it with makes life a little easier.
