Has anyone else seen that movie? I promise I'm not slaughtering humans in this post.. just couches. In my quest of discovery, I've decided I'm too much of a pack rat. I wouldn't call myself a hoarder, but I sure don't like to get rid of things. I feel like whatever I'm getting rid of will KNOW and it'll get sad! AHH! I can't deal. I blame it on childhood stories like Corduroy and The Brave Little Toaster. In my "sadghetti" life, I spend most of my moments at home cuddled on my bed with my scotties after work. I began to think, "Who needs a couch in this house anyway?!"
I bought my first couch when I moved back to the area in 2010. It came from a local furniture warehouse. I loved it because it was low to the ground (I'm short). It was a demo couch, meaning it was the only one of its design ever made. I though that was pretty neat. At the time, the purchase of my comfy sage couch was a milestone into adulthood. I'd never bought myself a large piece of furniture for my own apartment!
I put that couch through life. I slept on it during nights when my bedroom creeped me out, cried on it when my heart was hurt, experienced both Lost and Gossip Girl from beginning to end, opened birthday presents, wrapped christmas gifts, had friends use it for slumber, 3 dogs and 1 cat later, and after many weeks of consideration, I decided it was time to get rid of it. So, left it on the side of my street.

I didn't know if I would be sad or regret the purge. I feel I am able to keep my house cleaner without it collecting dust and pet hair. It took about 3 days before the garbage collectors came by. I'm pretty sure one of them took her home! Which made me happy. She's got a new life to live and I'll never have dust bunnies that LARGE again! So what's to regret? I replaced my couch with a bench. I had to give my scottie critters a new place to sit, watch squirrels, and lick bugs on the window.
With beginning a new couch-less chapter, I'm liking the idea of tiny-house living more and more.... there just might be a future for me there.... Stay tuned!
